米国Yale大学医学部の留学プログラム関連
8月12日からおよそ一週間の予定でエール大学の医学部を訪問しました。
留学プログラムの調査も兼ねて、二人の学部学生（名本さん、野田さん）と共に一年ぶりの訪問でした。
彼女らとともにいろいろな研究室を訪問し、研究内容についてディスカッションしました。
名本さんには日本での卒業研究の内容「脳室線毛の初代培養系の構築」についてプレゼンを行ってもらいました。非常に高い評価を受けました。
野田さんには特技を発揮して、筆・墨持参で書道を実演してもらいました。日本の書道はcalligraphyとして知られています。Caplan教授の名前、Michael Caplanを「舞蹴華富蘭」と書いてもらいました。大好評でした。
New Havenに滞在中はAirbnbの民泊でほぼ自炊で合宿生活をしました。こちらも新鮮な経験でした。また、帰国前にはNew Yorkに立ち寄り、俄かNew Yorkerになり、大満足でした。
日本の研究室もUSの研究室も区別はありません。英語よりも話すべきコンテンツが重要です。日本語、英語に関わらずしっかりした基礎知識を持つことが重要です。授業で卒業研究でしっかり基礎固めをしてください。
以下は私の意見です。
英語は「ツール」です。ツールがある程度、整えば「コンテンツ」をより充実させましょう。ある程度話せれば、コミュニケーションができればあとは実践です。海外に武者修行に出ませんか？ ブルペンで投げこむよりも、失敗を恐れずにアウェーの世界へ。さあマウンドで投げてみませんか？
I visited Yale School of Medicine with two undergraduate students from 12 to17 August. In Yale, we visited many professors in their laboratories to make a discussion about their and our research. Ms. Namoto (Yurie) made a presentation of her research about “Construction of primary ependymal cilia.” in the seminar. She got a very good evaluation from the audience. Ms Noda (Ayumi) made a presentation of her home city and campus life, and demonstrated calligraphy in front of the professors. She wrote the name of Prof. Michael Caplan in Japanese characters. She also got a very good evaluation. While we are in New Haven, we stayed together and enjoyed cooking in an Airbnb apartment. Before our departure for Japan, we enjoyed sightseeing in New York. It was very exciting.
There is no boundary between laboratories of US and Japan. In the research and communication, contents are much more important than language itself. Basic knowledge is indispensable for research as well as communication.
English as well as Japanese language is just a tool or carrier of contents. We should enrich the contents. If we can speak English to a certain extent why don’t you go out to study? Do not be afraid of failure. Let’s pitch from the mound of the ball park rather than throw in the bullpen.

8月下旬から9月下旬までおよそ一か月エール大学の医学部で海外研究を行いました。留学プログラムの調査も兼ねて、大学院生の小木曾さん、二人の学部学生（斎藤君、高橋君）と共に一年ぶりの訪問でした。彼らとともにいろいろな研究室を訪問し、自慢の設備を見せてもらい、研究内容についてディスカッションしました。学生にはそれぞれ日本での研究活動についてセミナーを行ってもらいました。また、斎藤君、高橋君には（スケジュールの関係で数日だけでしたが）私と一緒に実験をしてもらいました。New Havenに滞在中はAirbnbの民泊でほぼ自炊で合宿生活をしました。こちらも新鮮な経験でした。

現在、薬学研究科では米国Yale大学医学部との間で留学プログラムを準備中です。Yale大学は、米国東海岸のコネティカット州にあり、世界大学ランキングで10本の指に入る名門大学で、ノーベル賞受賞者を多数輩出しています。9月4日から実地打ち合わせのためにYale大学医学部（Molecular Cellular Physiology）を訪問しました。その際の写真を掲載します。Yale大学、ニューヘブンの様子をご覧ください。留学プログラムは、M1の夏季休暇期間の実施として計画しています。2019年度の大学院一期生から実施する予定です。ぜひ、チャレンジしてください。11月3日、4日にYale大学医学部の教授陣（Michael Caplan教授ほか）が立命館を訪問される予定です。セミナーや学生との交流会を計画しています。こちらにもぜひ参加してください。詳しくは浅野まで。
Now we plan to have a “study abroad program” from the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ritsumeikan University (RA) to Yale School of Medicine.
Yale University, one of the Ivy League members, is located in the city of New Haven, Connecticut on the east coast of USA. They have many Novel Prize winners. In the biological filed, Prof. James Edward Rothman, who is the Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Yale University, the Chairman of the Department of Cell Biology at Yale School of Medicine, was awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for “their discoveries of machinery regulating vesicle traffic, a major transport system in our cells.”
We visited Yale School of Medicine (Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology) in New Haven for on-site inspection from September 4 to 6. Here, we show the photographs of Yale University and New Haven.
The study abroad program is planned to be started for the 1st grade students of master course (M1) since 2019 summer. We are willing to fully support students who wish to join this program. Three professors will come to visit BKC for the on-site inspection on November 3 and 4. They have seminar presentations about their research projects. In addition, we plan to have interaction programs between these professors and our students. Please join this interaction programs freely and enjoy yourself without hesitation. 11月2日から4日までの3日間、米国エール大学医学部（細胞分子生理部門）から3名の先生方（Michael Caplan, David Zenisek, Jean-Ju Chung）の訪問がありました。大学院薬科学研究科（2019年設置予定）の学生のエール大学医学部への留学プログラム実施に向けての実務的な打ち合わせ、立命館大学のキャンパスを見てもらうこと、そしてこちらサイドからは学生との交流が主目的です。研究室訪問、先生方のセミナーの後、学部生と先生方のランチ交流会、お好み焼きディナーパーティーを開催しました。企画した仕掛け人として、すごく積極的な姿勢に高い評価を得てうれしくなりました。2019年に向けて準備を進めます。
From 2 to 4 November, three professors of Yale School of Medicine (Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology), Prof. Michael Caplan, Prof. David Zenisek, and Prof. Jean-Ju Chung, came to visit us in BKC, Ritsumeikan University (RA). The purposes of their visit are to discuss about study abroad program from RA (graduate school) to Yale, to inspect on-site our campus and university, and to interact between Yale professors with our graduate and undergraduate students. We (They) had a campus tour, laboratory tour, seminars, poster session, luncheon get-together party, and finally farewell Okonomiyaki dinner with our students. Positive and active attitude and wonderful behavior of our students were highly valuated by the Yale people. I was very proud of them.
